waxwing

All the presents were unwrapped.

And then Judith and Roger brought out a large, wrapped parcel for us - and as we stripped away the paper we found a carving of a waxwing that Roger had made and stained. We were astonished and delighted by the unexpected gift, made to mark the 'topping out' of Waxwings. This would usually be when the roof was completed but we couldn't wait....

So today, as we gathered to begin our traditional family Boxing Day walk, we fixed the nameplate to Waxwings with the year it was sited.

Thanks so much to Judith and Roger: a very special gift.
