I spoil ‘em

Day 226 #365DaysWild

After weeding it is time for mulching.
Applying organic matter to the soil surface.

Leaves and rotted woodchips are our mulch of choice in the shrub and perennial borders.

We mulch to:
Provide nutrients.
Conserve soil moisture.
Reduce weeds.
Feed soil mycology.
Boost invertebrates.

Today dunnocks, robins and blackbirds were busy hunting through the recently-mulched ground. I spoil ‘em rotten!

Robins and blackbirds seemed to be in pairs.

Dunnocks have a more-complex love life. I guess they’ve set up their commune.
