Day 209 #365DaysWild
Our ‘lawn’ more-closely resembles rough grassland after the mild winter that has seen exceptional grass growth.
Opportunist field voles have seen an opportunity and have colonised patches. Their telltale burrows now dot the grass.
They can breed abundantly - up to 48 young per female in one year!
As their diet is predominantly grass stems, roots and seeds they must now be in heaven. The areas grazed around their burrows are
termed ‘lawns’.
